-- Stroke volume is amount of blood leaving heart every beat -- SV is affected by amount of blood in ventricle, force of contraction, and resistance in vessels -- Cardiac Output is how much blood leaves heart in one minute. -- Resting male average is 5.25L/min -- 5.25L is average amount of blood in a person -- Regulated by cardiovascular center in medulla as part of the autonomic system.

--Hypertension-higher than normal blood pressure --Hypertension causes atherosclerotic vascular disease (plaque buildup), heart failure, kidney disease, and stroke --Arteriosclerosis-stiff walls --Bad for health: smoking, saturated fat, lack of exercise, stress --Good for health: Not overweight, no smoking, exercise, fruits, and vegetables --Treatment: angioplasty, artery replacement

-- Increase in exercise may increase cardiac output by 6 times to 30L/min! --Higher activity, higher blood flow
